I've been dreading this day...

Journal Entry: Wed Dec 3, 2008, 7:01 PM

I usually don't bother you nice folks in internet land with my troubles, but I'm gunna let you in on a little something that happened to me that I felt the need to rant about it like the Deviantspace whore that I am. So if you wanna read a not very entertaining story abut laugh heartily at my misfortunes, then I introduce to you:

Sheepi's Storytime.
So I finally got round to going off and going to sit my drivers license, because I'm the king of Procrastinating I really should have done it months ago. Anyway, I fill out the form and smile nicely to the lady at the desk, and she goes "now you gots to do an eye exam Mr.Sheeps", so I'm all like "This'll be easy!" cos I love to show everyone just how good my young hawklike eyes are.

She whips out the big chart, and she goes "read the 4th column please"
So I'm standing there like a moron waiting for these letters to come into focus... but they're totally not coming into focus. Now this wasn't just a little measly fail, this was epic, I couldn't even read the big letters at the top, ya'know, the really easy ones you look at and think "how the hell could anyone not get them".
Well now you know, I couldn't get them.

So driving receptionist lady points me off to the Optometrist man, and he runs his tests, and he "Um's" and "Ah's" and tries his best not to laugh at my failure to distinguish the difference between a red and a green circle, and in the end he slaps me with this $600 pair of glasses that I've been desperately trying to avoid for my entire life.
I've always prided myself in holding my ground and never being quite near enough to the edge to fall into that great sea of nerdiness; but the big man in the sky just did the assholish thing and stabbed my eyes with the divine forks of injustice and gave me a nice little push right in there.

lesigh...

Long story short: My eyes are absolutely fucked, Dr Optometrist reckoned that in about 6 months I wouldn't have any near vision at all, so in 3-5 working days I'll have myself a nice new pair of Glasses >.<.

I think that's the same problem as I'm having, I just hadn't noticed any sort of deterioration in my vision up until I went to sit the driving exam.
I've got a family history in it as well so mum wasn't too pissed off about it, she said it was only a matter of time before one of us kids showed signs of having vision troubles.

So you're long sighted? I'm sure that means you don't need to wear glasses when driving.

Glasses are stylish! You should be happy! ... just don't get thick framed ones. (I got frameless ones! :D)

My eyes are pretty bad too, but I'm short sighted so I would need them when driving... if I ever drive. >>;

I'm kinda not sure whether the problem is short or long vision, Family history points to me being shortsighted, but all I know for sure is that I can't read those eye charts! I seem to be able to read everything else perfectly well... ^^; which is I guess, where I got kinda frustrated with the whole scenario, I just don't see them as being necessary =p.

haha I picked out the smallest most frameless ones they had too xD. The real moral of the story is just don't drive, it's nothing but trouble!! :love:

Hey, glasses aren't that bad. ;)

I wear them myself, though not being a "cool" person, I probably would be the last person for advice, heheh. ^^

I'm not so bummed about having the glasses... but more about needing them. I've just come off 3 years of having braces so I'm used to having irregular accessories; after nearly 19 of near perfect vision, I'm just kinda ripped about my eyes suddenly packing up and running off on me all at once ^^;

I was the same, I had to start wearing them at a similar age too. But yeah, it's a bummer when body parts give up. :/

:) Haha, join the club. Congratulations, you just gained a great new accessory!

If you really had a complicated diagnosis it is a good idea to get a second opinion somewhere else. Just saying, gotta take good care of yourself.

;P Have fun gazing into that crisp, sharp horizon.

:love: haha I guess I could always paint them red and paste some pretty flower stickers or something on there to Pimp them out xDDD

ahh but the problem with a second diagnosis is that the next available spot is about 2 weeks after Christmas, I was incredibly lucky to get into this spot just yesterday =p... that, and I've already paid for the glasses to be made xD!

Thanks man, I certainly will ;p!

I have a similar story actually.

But my eyes aren't that bad. I can't see very far away. Like words, where I used to have perfect 20x20 vision. :[ I didn't care for them until I lost them...... And it bugged me. My mom ordered me another pair, actually.... I'll have them by Christmas.

My little sister (lol) has the same story as you. She has horrible vision and has been avoiding it because she thinks glasses are too nerdy. (Her caring dramatically what she looks like and what people think of her...) So now shes absolutely stuck with them since my mom knows how horrible her eyes are. :[

(She actually got the same pair I did....)

Haha, and it appears you've gotten plenty of other people with stories to share. :D
